“He is coming!”
“He will kill us all”
“What shall we do?”
“Where can we go?”
“Without us, all will be deaf and blind to the perils surrounding them”
“We must warn them before it is too late”
“He is coming!”
“He is coming...”
“He is coming...”

The voices echoed in her mind like distant dreams, fewer and weaker than before, now that they had lost so many. Sibyl stirred weakly within the egg, eyes open without really seeing much. All she saw was colours. The rainbow auras of her guardians, and the dull, electrical hue of the machines. She heard the tones of their voices, rising and falling in softly chanted prayers and songs, her mind slightly fuzzy, cushioned by the mild sedatives they had given her. The voices were barely whispers, and for a moment, her mind was at relative peace. Still, she could not entirely shake the feeling of dread and foreboding. She had to warn her guardians. Had to tell them about the darkness that would come. The voices....the beacons...were quenched one by one, and without them, mankind would be lost. There would be no more prophecies! No more warnings! No more guidance! Chaos would rule and only darkness would reign between the stars.

She drifted weightlessly, fingers and toes twitching ever so slightly in sync with her heartbeat. Her head turning to look at her guardians. Eyes drifted across the rainbow auras until her eyes fell on Calistia. Hers shone the brightest! All warm and bright colours showing her nature and strength as clear as day. Beneath Sibyl's gaze, nothing was hidden. She knew the hearts, souls, and minds of any who stepped within her sight. It all unfolded before her in vivid clarity, and it gave her certainty of the answers she already knew.
One look at Calistia, and Sibyl knew...

“Help me....”

Her voice was a soft whisper, yet the plea within was that of a frightened child.
It struck Calistia with a greater impact than a scream ever could have, and for a moment, their eyes locked. Sibyl's eyes had the colour of milk and water, yet colours whirled across their surface like oil on water. Calistia's eyes were a soft blue, close to that of blue ice. Her heart wrenched in her chest, and before she knew it, she nodded almost imperceptibly, whispering beneath her breath so quietly that her fellow guardians took it as prayer.

“I will help you, little one. I will protect you. I promise.”

Sibyl heard. She saw the aura flicker with the nod. Then she allowed herself to drift into sleep, submerging into the white noise of the whispered murmurs of voices between the stars.
