We harvest the stars from the sky
And hide them in our pockets
Cage them within jars of glass
Like fireflies on a midsummer eve.

We build castles of sand and air
Devastated as the tide reclaims them
Breathing deeply in quiet sobs
As the sand runs through our fingertips.

We long and yearn for something
Never quite able to define what it is
Reaching for straws to keep above water
As the tide washes over us.

And the wind
erases our
footsteps
in the sand.
Another weird little out-of-nowhere poem :D They have a tendency to creep up on me when I am least expecting it ^^ Any and all feedback is as always deeply appreciated :D Enjoy!

Life and love are so fragile, and you managed to captured that in words so beautifully.  It's delicate yet heavy on the mind, and shows us that we hide away what we need to display, and become careless with what we need to cherish.

Thank you so much for the lovely comment :) I think it is kinda awesome the last part of your comment actually rhymes :P Fun little detail. And I agree. A lot of people forget to appreciate what they have in the hunt to get something more!

Ha ha ha! Hadn't noticed that, sort of came out that way. And yes, they do, many discard what should be cherish and go after what is meaningless. It baffles me.

This is masterfully done. With very clean and simple lines, you paint a picture of the fragility, and fleeting nature of human existence. This isn't done in a cynical manner, but speaks to the raw beauty of a singular life. I look forward to reading more of your work.

I like it when poems go deep and profound, but still understandable. And written with beautiful words, like you succeeded in doing. :)

This poem reminds me of how dreams are. How we try to grasp them abd make them real, but we always seem to loose them along the way. Sometimes we never know what our real dreams are, until later. I really liked it and it really touched my heart.

Thank you so very much for the sweet comment :) And yes, it is true. Sometimes we get so caught up in having a dream that we lose track of what that dream really is, or if it is the right one for us :)I am happy that you like it :D

You welcome. I am very partial to things about dreams because I have such big dreams myself, but I can never seemly get them off the ground. So I use those things as inspiration to help me through it. And your poem was very inspirational to me.

Nice - I like the contrast that in some ways it is a very sad poem, but I also find it strangely uplifting. I think it's the way life is compared to sandcastles - we know they won't last forever, but we still build them, because even something fleeting and temporary can be fun and beautiful and worthwhile.

Thank you so much for the sweet comment, and indeed: We must appreciate the small things in life, even though, or perhaps especially because, they don't last forever :D

You have a serous gift... I have some friends who say they like my poetry, and others that I think are by far my betters, but this is an example of something on another level completely. It is emotional, powerful, simple, and elegant. I can see and feel what you are describing, and at the same time, completely experience the symbolism.

This is probably my favorite poem on DA yet.
